Hello. If you are reading this you have agreed to take a contract on a professional working in this city. Please read our Assassin’s rules, and then follow the instructions at this communiqué’s end to receive your first target. From the information my sources have provided our relationship is bound to be a fruitful one.
Basic Play:
- You receive a contract with a targets name.
- You neutralize that target.
- You email a brief report to the organizers and receive your next target.
- Remember, somewhere in the city a professional has been issued a contract with your name on it. Watch your back.
Rules for the Assassin:
- The target must be neutralized with an approved weapon.
- You may only neutralize the target you’ve been issued a contract for.
- The target is considered neutralized when a hit occurs on any part of their body, including all backpacks, purses, clothing and other accessories attached to their person. The target is not neutralized if hit on an object he or she is carrying, such as a book, UPS box, laptop (don’t shoot their laptop), etc.
- The assassination must take place with absolutely NO WITNESSES. This is the cardinal rule of Assassins. Be silent, be covert. If those involved agree there were witnesses the attempt is considered a botched assassination.
- The target must be assassinated outside of a safe zone. If an assassination attempt is made inside of a safe zone it is considered a botched assassination.
- When an agreement is reached on what has taken place during the assassination attempt, the surviving party(s) email their report to pgh.red.league@gmail.com.
- Statistics will then be updated by the organizers and reports uploaded to the wiki page. Other professionals will read your report and respect your fearsome skills.
Rules for the Target:
- If you are neutralized, do not give your assassin any information, such as your target’s name. You are dead, and you cannot speak. Feel free to utter non-game related last words such as “Rosebud…” or “This is from… Matilda.”
- Once you can physically see your assassin’s weapon, you are free to defend yourself with your own weapon. Suspecting you are about to be assassinated is not enough reason to draw your weapon; in this case your best defense is to move to an area with witnesses.
- If you successfully neutralize your assassin, they are out of the game. Email your report to pgh.red.league@gmail.com.
Rules for Safe Zones:
- A target cannot be assassinated in any safe zones.
- The safe zones include a specific address or business and the city block of sidewalk adjacent to their entrance. In the following graphic, black is safe and grey is not:
- There are two types of safe zones: Universal safe zones which apply to everyone and are listed in an email received at the beginning of the game, and your target’s personal safe zones you will receive with your contract.
Breaking the rules and Botched Assassinations:
- If a botched assassination occurs or if an assassin egregiously breaks any of the rules of the game an enforcer may be dispatched to eliminate them. These enforcers must follow the rules of the game like any other assassin, and may be special agents recruited by the Red League or the organizers themselves.
- You will be notified by email if an enforcer is sent after you. Please order your affairs.
Exceptions to the rules:
- The rules create a safe and enjoyable game with limited impact on an assassin’s formal responsibilities such as jobs, class and home life. To maintain this:
- There will be no exceptions to the safe zone rules.
- Bending or breaking other rules (approved weapons or witnesses for example) may be deemed acceptable as long as it maintains the spirit of the game, that you assassinate someone with no collateral damadge, and get away with it. Any non standard methods of assassination must be approved after the fact by the target and the organizers of the Red League. If it’s ingenious enough I’m sure we’ll all appreciate it.
- If a circumstance that bends a rule is allowed once, it does not mean that same rule bending will be allowed again.
What about ambiguous circumstances or disagreements?
- Assassins is a friendly semi-competitive game. The responsibility for fair play is placed on the players. All ambiguous circumstances must be worked out between the assassin and target before a report is made.
- Don’t get too serious. Respect your target and have fun!
Winnings:
- On completion of all contracts there will be a small gathering of professionals, where payment will be issued to the “Last Man Standing” (assassin left alive) and the “Angel of Death” (assassin with the most kills). There will be accolades for outstandingly devious and clever assassinations.
If any of these instructions appear unclear, please email pgh.red.league@gmail.com for clarification.
To Receive Your First Contract:
- Drop off your retaining fee of $2.00 United States currency at the specified locations provided in a separate email. You will be provided with a Red League approved assassination ready squirt-weapon. This is the only weapon you may neutralize your target with.
- Email pgh.red.league@gmail.com the following information:
- Your Real Name.
- An Agent Name, brief bio, quote, and picture no larger than 220 by 220 pixels, which will appear on the wiki page http://redleague.pbwiki.com.
- Your personal safe zone addresses. You are allowed to list the address of all jobs (within reason, please don’t abuse), and a single additional address of your own choosing. Recommendations are your home, a bar, or other areas you wish to remain paranoia free. Busy areas are not recommended as they are de-facto safe due to the presence of witnesses. Remember, more safe zones are not necessarily better as they will provide the assassin assigned to neutralize you a good idea of areas you're likely to frequent.
- The passcode on the bottom of your squirt-weapon, which confirms you as an active assassin.
- You will be emailed your first contract within three days. Good luck!
